📝 FPL Gameweek 3 Preview: Top Picks, Transfers & Strategy
⚽ GW1 Recap: Winners & Losers
Winners:
- Viktor Gyökeres (£9.0m): The Swedish international finally got his first goals in an emphatic win against Premier League new boys Leeds scoring 12 pts along the way.
- João Pedro (£7.6m): Couldn’t score on his Premier League debut but the highly owned asset stepped up in the surprise absence of Cole Palmer. Could be a cheaper alternative to Palmer depending on how long his time on the sideline is.
- Jurrien Timber (£5.6m): The highest scorer of the gameweek with a huge 24 pt return.
Losers:
- Ollie Watkins (£9.0m): Highly owned but he and his club have struggled so far this season. They are yet to score a goal collectively and many would have expected him to return against his former club Brentford.
- Erling Haaland (£14.0m): The games second most expensive asset got a big backing after scoring two goals in the first game of the season. City however failed to score with Spurs continuing their strong start to the season.

🧭 Captaincy Picks: Week of differentials
Salah: The usual most selected pick faces a strong Arsenal defence who are yet to concede a goal this season. It might be the time to go differential as there are other more appealing games to target.
- Erling Halaand (£14.0m): Okay…not really a differential. But still a good option even though City is playing away. Brighton is a good side, but their games generally tend to have many goals involved on both ends.
- Matheus Cunha (£8.1m): Although he has not yet scored this season, his price has increased. This is probably due to the Red Delivs appealing fixture against newly promoted Burnley who conceded 3 goals away from home in their first game.
- Chris Wood (£7.7m): Facing a struggling West Ham side who have lost every game they have played so far this season, Wood could be a good option if you are looking for a good differential captaincy pick.
🔥 Fixtures to Target
Teams with favorable fixtures:
- Nottingham Forest: Home against West Ham. The Hammers have already conceded 8 goals in 2 games in the league and moreover lost to Wolves during the week in the Carabao Cup.
- Sunderland: If Sunderland are going to stay up this season, you would imagine that strong home form would be crucial. They put in a great performance at home in the first game of the season while their opponents Brentford struggled away from home.
- Manchester United: By all means, this is not a given as Utd have struggled in recent times. But surely this should get their first win of the season here…Surely?
Key players to consider:
- Bruno Fernandes (£9.0m): usually involved for Utd if they are to get a win.
- Illiman Ndiaye (£6.5m): Looks sharp and effective for the Toffees. Always looks like he wants to find the quickest way to goal. Wolves may struggle to handle his directness.
- Callum Hudson-Odoi (£6.0m): You could imagine Forest scoring multiple goals against the hammers. If this happens then Hudson-Odoi could be one of the attacking players that is involved.
🌟 Differential Gems (<10% Ownership)
- Callum Hudson-Odoi (£6.0m): You could imagine Forest scoring multiple goals against the hammers. If this happens then Hudson-Odoi could be one of the attacking players that is involved.
- Jack Grealish (£6.5m): Made his first start for his new club last week and looked right at home straight away. Wolves do not look the best in defence. This in combination with the fact that he was just left out of the latest England squad may bring him more motivation to get his first goal.
- Estêvão (£6.5m):Given how he performed after getting drafted in late last week against the hammers, the young Brazilian could have got himself a chance in a run in the starting lineup.
💰 Budget Enablers
- Richarlison (£6.7m): His price has increase but still at this price with how Spurs have performed could be a good option.
- Dan Ndoye (£6.0m): If you want a Forest player against West Ham but don’t want to go for would, the new signing could be the next best pick. He already has a goal and assist in his first two games.
- Robin Roefs (£4.5m): Sunderland’s goalkeeper secured a clean sheet in GW1, presenting budget appeal. Sunderland also have appealing fixtures in the short term.

🔄 Buy, Sell, Hold
Buy:
- Hugo Eketike (£8.7m): The new Liverpool striker has scored in 3 games in a row. If you have Watkins he could be the perfect replacement. After the game against Arsenal, Liverpool have a few good fixtures to follow.
- Chris Wood (£7.7m): His price has already increased twice. This is not only due to his potential for goals but also some favourable fixtures coming up.
- Vicario (£5.0m): Could be a good long term pick if Spurs continue to show promise in defence.
Sell:
- Ollie Watkins (£9.0m): Not that cheap and Aston Villa have not scored a goal yet.
- Virgil Van Dijk (£6.0m): Playing well as an individual but The Reds look very open at the back.
Hold:
- Cole Palmer (£10.5m): We say this with caution. He might not play due to injury, but if he does you could end up missing on a big pts return.
- Rayan Aït-Nouri (£6.1m): Seems like his injury will be short term. You could bench him this week and still have him for good fixtures moving forward.

🧠 Final Thoughts
Gameweek 3 presents opportunities to capitalize on favorable fixtures and emerging form. While early transfers can be tempting, it’s essential to avoid knee-jerk reactions and consider long-term value. Patience pays in FPL.
